Ideas behind this session are at Indie Web Camp.

Kevin introduced, explained webmention, a simple way to notify any URL when you link to it on your site. Includes two parameters: source and destination. It’s how he collects his tweets on his home page, also using Bridgy to implement the backfeed from Twitter to Kevin’s site. Kevin also showed the HTML code needed to implement this. (BTW, here’s a webmention plug-in for WordPress.)

Next, micropub is an open API standard that is used to create posts on one’s own domain using third-party clients, and Quill is a simple app for posting text notes to your website using micropub to create a feed reader.

Another tool in this kit is known, used in Kevin’s code as withknown.

Also, an old HTML microformat code rel=”me” identifies a site as being part of your world (as you specify across sites).

To see if your stuff is working, test your URL at indiewebify.me/validate-rel-me/.

Another tool that re-publishes from instagram is OwnYourGram.

PESOS is acronym for Publish Elsewhere, Syndicate to your Own Site. Contrast with POSSE, which stands for Publish on Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere. Two models of moving info back and forth between social media sites.

Suggested Android tool: backitude for location (where are you).

The IWC developers have made a lot of these tools as small as possible for their functionality. Trying to avoid monoculture where everyone runs the same code (long-term rigidity problems).
